Cubburi

The Cubburi are small constructions made of dry stone very common in eastern Sicily and in particular in the Nebrodi area. These curious structures were built in the past in areas intended for grazing and were used as a refuge by shepherds. The architectural layout is circular, sometimes quadrangular. Starting from the foundations, the stone ashlars are arranged concentrically, so that each row supports the upper one. The construction is crowned by a heavy system pseudocupola, which makes the structure fall into the typical typology of the tholos.
