Church of San Nicola - Mirto

The Church of San Nicola dei Greci is located in the main square of Mirto. According to a legible inscription on the jamb of the central portal, it was built between 1228 or 1238. Externally the building has the sandstone portal with pointed arches and the rear bell body as salient marks. The church has a single nave with lateral chapels on the left side. Inside the church there is the venerated statue of SS. Crucifix, work with a taste close to the sculptures of Fra Umile da Petralia of the seventeenth century. To the left of the main altar is the oldest painting on canvas preserved in Mirto, dating back to 1597, which portrays a Virgin and Child with Saint Nicholas on the sides and another saint, by Gaspare Camarda.
