Church of Santa Maria del Gesù - Mirto

The church of Santa Maria di Gesù is a national monument. The exterior is characterized by the simple facade, but whose importance is obscured by the splendid lateral sandstone portal on the north side and by the soaring bell tower enriched by the spire covered with colorful majolica. The interior, with a single nave, directs the visitor's eye towards the presbytery area. This, rich in frescoes from the walls to the vault, frames the monumental gilded wooden high altar which houses a marble effigy of the Madonna and Child, a work from 1578 by Giuseppe Gagini. In the side chapels there are two wooden fercoli of the XVIII century. Filadelfio Allò by Mese and a 17th century wooden sculpture depicting the Madonna del Cardellino. The floor is characterized by the splendid Nasitan majolica.
