Oriented Natural Reserve of the Bosco di Malabotta

Not far from the center of Montalbano Elicona there is an itinerary of enormous naturalistic interest: it is the Oriented Natural Reserve of the Bosco di Malabotta.

This reserve was established in 1997, covers a total area of over 32 km² and extends over the most common areas in the area straddling the Nebrodi and Peloritani mountains.

This wood has a great ecological value thanks to the environmental diversity that allows it to keep imposing oaks, beeches, pines, hazelnuts, chestnuts and black poplars among the main species of trees. In the undergrowth there are plenty of Hawthorns, Peonies, Gorse and Rosa Canina. Among the fauna present, you can admire the Fox, the Wild Boar, the Porcupine, the Black Pig typical of the Nebrodi, the Dormouse, the Quercino and again the Weasels, the Peregrine Falcons, the Buzzards and the Golden Eagles, together with many other specimens which also testify to the enormous wealth of the natural resources of the place.
