Ancient village of Castanìa

Oldest village of Castell'Umberto, where among alleys, fountains and churches the story of the small nebroid village is told before, with Royal Decree of 8 June 1865, the inhabited center moved to its current location, which took its name of Castell'Umberto in honor of Prince Umberto I. Today Castanìa represents the historical center of the country inside which there are the most relevant remains of the history and architecture of the place: the Church of Santa Barbara, the Castle, the Convent, the Church of San Francesco and many other sites that testify to the role of artisans and, in particular, local stonemasons in the historical-artistic development of the Castanese community.
