Castle of Castell'Umberto

In the ancient village of Castanìa, on a hill overlooking the Fitalia Valley, there is the Castle of medieval origin of which only a few ruins remain today. The central tower of the building, square in shape, seems to have been part of a system of fortifications that, around the 19th century, the Byzantines built in strategic points of the territory to counter the Saracen invasion: only later, through the phenomenon the ancient tower was transformed into a residence, then into a castle. From what is said, it was in 1553, during the lordship of the Sollima, that the Castle experienced the moments of greatest vitality.
