Dominican Convent - Church of San Vincenzo - Castell'Umberto

The Dominican Convent, with an adjoining Church dedicated to San Vincenzo Ferreri, is located next to the Church of Santa Barbara in the ancient village of Castanìa. Founded in 1444 by Blessed Giovanni di Pistoia and managed by the Dominican Friars, the Convent was an important center both from an economic and religious point of view. The bell tower, some remains of the colonnade, the central apse with the two side chapels, traces of the walls of the sacristy and a small part of the pavement of the aisles remain of the fifteenth-century Church of San Domenico. There are also valuable archaeological finds in local sandstone that testify the traditional art of Umbertine stonemasons. Today the entire area is used as an outdoor auditorium.
